On Wednesday Chris and the team had the experience of going to Skid Row (Heroine Alley). Some of the team handed out food to the homeless, while other members of the team ministered to the people on the street and around a courtyard area. Chris said you could feel the heaviness of the spirit as soon as they got out of the van. He had a great opportunity to minister to a man in the courtyard, who was in desperate need of the opportunities the Dream Center provides. Chris felt like it was definitely a divine appointment. The team spent almost the entire day at Skid Row, they were physically, mentally, and spiritually exhausted at the end, but the time invested was well worth it.
On Thursday, Chris and Pastor Brandon had the privilege of meeting with the Adopt-A-Block leaders from the Dream Center. From this meeting they were able to get helpful tools, great wisdom and an even bigger vision of the potential they have for the Adopt-A-Block ministry in Birmingham and Auburn. In the afternoon the whole team was able to participate in a ministry called Poverty Prevention. There are so many kids that are in danger of being taken away from their families by DHR b/c of basic necessities they are unable to afford, such as food, toiletries, diapers, cleaning supplies, etc. This ministry goes around to homes in the area and meets the needs of those families that are in critical condition. By providing simple things like detergent, toothpathe and bath soap, these families are able to stay together and not be separated. Wow, what an easy thing to do to save a family!
Last night when I talked to Chris, they're next event was attending the weekly Church service hosted to the people living at the LA Dream Center, as well as anyone off the street. Hundreds of people attend, hear the Gospel, experience awesome worship and get connected. The Highlands team was going to have the opportunity to get a behind the scenes look of how this Church service runs, as well as get some one on one time with Pastor Matthew Barnett who founded the Dream Center 15 years ago and set up a model for hundreds of other churches, like Highlands today.
Today, Friday, they were supposed to be going back to Skid Row with the food truck for one last visit before heading to the airport around 7pm. Their flight leaves from LA at 10:45pm. They fly a red eye all night and arrive in Charlotte at 6:30am, then reboard after a slight layover and head to Birmingham. The team should land around 10:30am back in Birmingham. Please pray for continued opportunity as their trip comes to a close and that the Lord would continue to minister to the team even as they fly back home. Pray also for safety and good rest as they fly, as I know they will all be exhausted.
Can't wait to see my husband. 1 more day!! YAY!!!
